Japan in fourth week of February 2014 faced a severe snowstorm that has
killed 19 people and left more than 1600 people injured. This snowstorm
weather has also sparked widespread transport chaos. People of the
country have been trapped in small communities because they have been
cut off by snow-locked roads and railway lines.
The meteorological agency of Japan in its latest forecast said that now the storm is moving towards northernmost Hokkaido. In its announcement, the agency has also issued warning of heavy snowfall and avalanches along with high waves along the northeastern coast. Hokkaido is the place that was battered by a quake that sparked tsunami almost three years ago.
To help people in the distressed areas, the members of Japan’s Self-Defence forces have also stepped in.
The weather of Japan gone worst after snow began falling on 15 February 2014 in Tokyo and piled up to 26 centimeters by 15 February 2014. This is the heaviest snowfall witnessed by people of the country in almost of one decade.
