Matteo Renzi sworn-in as PM of Italy

Matteo Renzi on 22 February 2014 sworn-in as Italy’s Prime Minister replacing Enrico Letta, who resigned from the office on 14 February 2014. Apart from this a new cabinet of 16 ministers also took the sworn of their offices at the Presidential palace in Rome.


Renzi, 39 is the Italy’s youngest Prime Minister and he is the third prime minister to reach office without winning an election. Renzi belongs to the Democratic Party, who was the former mayor of the Florence.
The Renzi’s 16-member cabinet is the smallest cabinet of the country. This cabinet is also the youngest one with an average age of 48. Half of the cabinet ministers are women in Italian history.
Italy’s new Finance Minister is Pier Carlo Padoan who is a deputy secretary-general and chief economist of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
